Today was the last Sunday of worship at Whites Chapel United Methodist Church. My earliest memory of Whites Chapel pastors were, Rev. A.M. Bridges, Rev. Wideman, Rev. Robinson and Rev. Kidd, I also remember our pastor died during his time as our leader but I can't remember his name and the Superintendent sent Rev. Grier to serve us until a new pastor could be assigned. My siblings and I joined when Rev. A.M Bridges was the pastor. Rev. Bridges sprinkled us as members and he also married me in December 1979 with Rev. Robinson serving as the pastor. My daddy John Wesley Martin was a member for all of his 72 years. I also have very fond memories of the conventions under the tabernacle where the church now stands. There was a little refreshment stand that sold those best fresh roasted peanuts in the little brown paper bag, they sold other things as well but the peanuts were my favorite. I posted these pictures to show how the church grew and moved across the street. I hope someone has a picture of the old wooden open tabernacle. I was a member for over 40 years before I became a member where I am presently. The old building will always reminds because of its structure. 148 years strong. Also Daddy King father of Martin Luther King Jr preached at Whites Chapel in the original building, I have to look at my mom's picture to get the year. Monica Pearson also spoke at Whites Chapel.
